In 2024 Andreas Røysum Ensemble started working with the legendary Chicago-based poet, singer and renaissance man Marvin Tate. Now it´s finally time for the world to start enjoying the fruits of this meeting of visionaries.

Marvin Tate has been a driving force in Chicago culture since the mid-eighties. Initially making a name for himself as the slam champion of the city, the nineties saw him leading the musical groups Uptighty (with Leroy Bach of Wilco, and Dan Bitney of Tortoise) and D-settlement.
“By merging ferociously honest poetry with various black musical traditions, Tate stands as heir to Chicagoan Oscar Brown Jr., the veteran urban griot whose lyrics long have decried racism and social injustice.”- The Chicago Tribune
Andreas Røysum gathered his best friends and favorite musicians to found his dream ensemble in 2018. Three full length albums and a hundred concerts later, Røysum Ensemble have established themselves on the forefront of creative music, serving their notoriously spicy gumbo of jazz, folk, soul and contemporary music influences to more and more enthusiastic listeners.
September 2025 saw the ensemble embark upon their first tour of the US. Bill Meyer of DownBeat Magazine wrote about their closing set of the Sound & Gravity festival as one of the weekends highlights; “It’s an unlikely combination, but that worked to its favor; there’s nothing else around that’s quite like this partnership”. Røysum and Tate are more than eager to go deeper, and are looking forward to share their soul salad with European audiences!
