The globally beloved Norwegian folk ensemble Wardruna will bring their hypnotic music to Alexela Concert Hall in Tallinn on October 16, 2026. Known for their deep connection to nature, ancient traditions, and atmospheric soundscapes— as well as their contributions to the “Vikings” series— the band will present their album, “Birna”, a call for the lost guardian of the forests, the she-bear, to return.

Formed by composer and multi-instrumentalist Einar Selvik, Wardruna has spent decades reviving and reinventing Nordic musical traditions, blending ancient instruments, historical texts, and modern soundscapes to create a sound that transcends time. Their previous albums, including the “Runaljod” trilogy, “Skald”, and “Kvitravn”, have established them as pioneers of ritualistic and evocative music, earning global recognition and a devoted following.

Released on January 24, 2025, “Birna” is a profound musical exploration of the bear’s role as the warden of the forest—its spirit slowly fading as modern civilization encroaches on its domain. The heartbeat of the hibernating bear, a slow, rhythmic pulse, is woven into the very fabric of the album, echoing through songs like “Dvaledraumar” (Dormant Dreams) and “Jord til Ljos” (Earth to Light).

Selvik explains the album’s vision: “The bear has always been a creature of legend, feared and revered in equal measure. Its rhythm is the rhythm of the earth itself—one of renewal, of death and rebirth. With this album, we follow its footsteps and awaken something ancient within ourselves.”

Wardruna’s live performances are an unparalleled fusion of music, ritual, and natural resonance, transporting audiences into a world where past and present intertwine. The band has performed at breathtaking historical and natural sites worldwide, from the Odeon of Herodes Atticus at the Acropolis in Athens to the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, creating immersive experiences that feel like echoes from another age.

The Tallinn concert will be a rare opportunity to witness “Birna” in its full live form, performed by a stellar ensemble featuring Einar Selvik (vocals, taglharpa, kravik-lyre, bukkehorn), Lindy-Fay Hella (vocals), Eilif Gundersen (bukkehorn, lur, flute, backing vocals), HC Dalgaard (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Sondre Veland (percussion, backing vocals), John Stenersen (mora-harp), and Arne Sandvoll (percussion, backing vocals).

In addition to performing tracks from “Birna”, Wardruna will bring to life selections from their legendary discography, including songs from “Runaljod”, “Skald”, and “Kvitravn”. Their music, which has also been featured in popular media such as “Vikings” and “Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla”, continues to reach new audiences and bridge the gap between the ancient and the contemporary.

Selvik describes the essence of Wardruna’s music: “When I walk into a forest, I open my senses and listen for whatever nature cares to tell me. Music is already there—we just have to hear it. Wardruna is not about reconstructing the past, but about using its wisdom to create something meaningful today.”

The Tallinn concert will be a truly immersive experience—one that will linger long after the last note fades.
